After weeks of rollovers the US Powerball jackpot had risen to a staggering $425 million in Wednesday night’s draw , in fact the jackpot had not been won in 2014 as the last jackpot win was on Christmas Day in 2013 .
The odds of matching all six numbers and winning the jackpot ? roughly 1 in 175 million !
However on Wednesday night one lucky punter defied these odds and scooped the $425 million jackpot !
The numbers in Wednesday’s Powerball draw were 01-17-35-49-54 , the Powerball was 34. The lucky winning ticket was purchased at the Dixon Landing Chevron Gas Station in Milpitas , California ,about ten miles north of San Jose.
The jackpot prize is the sixth largest in US Lottery history and the fourth largest for the Powerball draw – the lucky winner will have the alternative choice of $227.8 million should they wish to take the prize as a lump sum .
The other happy winner on Wednesday night was the Dixon Landing Chevron Gas Station who will receive $1 million for selling the lucky winning ticket.
